About Us
Welcome to Nova Nafs Counselling
Nova Nafs represents both new beginnings and a deeper connection to the self.
“Nova” symbolizes growth, transformation, and the beautiful province of Nova Scotia, where this practice is based.
“Nafs” (نفس), the Arabic term for the self or soul, reflects the journey of self-discovery, healing, and living in alignment with one’s values.
Rooted in compassion and cultural understanding, Nova Nafs Counselling offers a welcoming space for individuals, couples, and families to explore life’s challenges, strengthen relationships, and move toward meaningful growth.
about me
Perry Sami, MACP
RCT-C | CCC
I believe therapy is more than a space to talk about challenges. It is an opportunity to better understand yourself, explore new perspectives, and discover meaningful ways to move forward.
I’m Perryhan (Perry Sami) Abdalla, a Registered Counselling Therapist–Candidate (RCT-C) and Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology, a Life and Success Coaching certification, and an international Bachelor of Pharmacy degree.
My diverse educational, professional, and personal experiences have shaped the way I approach counselling. Having lived across different cultures and navigated significant life transitions, I understand how our backgrounds, relationships, identities, and personal values influence the way we experience life’s challenges.
My background in healthcare also contributes to a holistic understanding of well-being, recognizing the connection between our physical health, emotional experiences, and everyday lives.
I approach therapy with warmth, curiosity, and compassion, creating a space where you can feel heard, understood, and respected. I believe that you are the expert in your own life, and my role is not to tell you what to do, but to work alongside you as you explore your experiences, recognize your strengths, and find ways forward that align with your values.
I offer culturally responsive counselling in English and Arabic, with the option to integrate faith-informed perspectives when meaningful to you.
At Nova Nafs Counselling, my goal is to meet you where you are and support you in discovering the possibilities and solutions within yourself.
At Nova Nafs Counselling, therapy is a collaborative process shaped by your unique experiences, needs, and goals. Together, we explore the challenges you’re facing, deepen your understanding of yourself and your relationships, and develop practical strategies that support meaningful, lasting change.
My approach is integrative, drawing on evidence-based therapeutic modalities to tailor our work to what matters most to you. These include:
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
- Narrative Therapy
- Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills
- The Gottman Method (Gottman-informed interventions)
Grounded in humanistic, strengths-based, and culturally responsive principles, my approach recognizes that there is no one-size-fits-all path to well-being. Whether we’re working through emotional challenges, exploring relationship patterns, or navigating significant life changes, our work is guided by your values, strengths, and personal circumstances.
I offer individual, couples, and family counselling to adults and older adolescents from diverse backgrounds. Based in Nova Scotia, I provide in-person sessions locally and virtual counselling to clients in Nova Scotia and other eligible Canadian provinces and territories.
